DUBOIS – Sandy Township and DuBois City officials have received a tentative OK from the Pennsylvania Utilities Commission to proceed with a long-term water sales agreement.
Additionally, a joint committee comprised of officials and employees from both municipalities will continue to research a long-term water and sewer service agreement.
According to Supervisor Kevin Salandra, officials still need to explore this information further, as it was only received from the PUC last week.
However, Salandra said the sewer portion of the agreement is looking more promising. An unstated proposal from Sandy Township was countered with a lease agreement by DuBois City.
The supervisors voted to authorize the committee to continue its work and to postpone any sale of the Sandy Township Municipal Authority.
It was also announced there will be a special meeting Nov. 27 to work on budgets for Sandy Township and the Sandy Township Municipal Authority.
The municipal authority’s budget currently has a projected deficit, and Sandy Township Solicitor Greg Kruk was not sure this would be legally permitted.
Salandra indicated that he had “significant changes” he would like to see in the township budget, which did not have a projected deficit.
It was reported that the Sandy Township police received a $2,200 donation for tactical protective vests for active shooter situations.
The department originally planned to replace its vests over two years, but this will now allow for an immediate replacement.
Police also have gun locks available to township residents upon request.
