MEN’S SWIMMING
ERIE — Freshman Chase Bietz (Clearfield) was one of Penn Stare Behrend’s three quadruple winners in the Junker Center Pool Saturday when the Lions dunked Alfred (N.Y.) State 210-75 in their first dual meet.
Bietz won the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.11 seconds and the 200 breast in 2:02.88, both personal-bests, and was on two victorious relay quartets.
He swam the breast split for the 200 medley team that opened the meet with a 1:38.80 clocking and led off for the 200 freestyle unit that closed it out with a 1:29.19 performance.

ERIE — Sophomores Hayden Steiner (Clearfield) and Tate Swanson (Clearfield) were point-getters for visiting Clarion in a 161-80 loss to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opponent Gannon in the Carneval Athletic Pavilion Pool Friday night.
Steiner placed fifth in the 100-yard butterfly with a personal-best 57.42 and fifth in the 200 freestyle in 1:53.28. He turned in a 22.17 third leg for the Golden Eagle ‘A’ 200 free relay team that finished second in 1:28.
Swanson lowered his season-best times to 22.99 for the 50 free and 50.72 for the 100 free, placing fifth and sixth, respectively. He swam a 22.38 anchor leg for the ‘B’ 200 free relay foursome that wound up fourth in 1:33.32.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING
INDIANA — Sisters Paige and Claire Mikesell (Clearfield) were two of the standouts as Indiana University of Pennsylvania outsplashed Edinboro 133-71 in Pidgeon Natatorium Friday night.
Paige, a freshman, was a triplewinner for the second meet in a row while Claire, a senior, anchored two victorious relay teams and was second in an individual event.
Paige Mikesell won the 100-yard freestyle in 53.97 seconds, a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying time, and the 200 free in 1:58.72 after posting a 25.91 butterfly leg for the IUP ‘A’ 200 medley relay foursome that triumphed in 1:51.28.
She had registered a PSAC 200 free qualifying time in the season opener.
Claire Mikesell, who was second in a PSAC qualifying time of 24.79 in the 50 free, closed out the 200-medley relay win with a 25.06 split and capped IUP’s second victory over a PSAC opponent with a come-from-behind effort.
In the 200 free relay, she hit the water .83 seconds behind the Edinboro anchor and overtook her to touch the wall for a 24.41 split that stopped the clock at 1:40.26 and a win by .24 seconds.
On Monday, Paige Mikesell was named IUP Female Athlete of the Week.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
CRESSON — Freshman goalkeeper Madi Jones (Clearfield) logged four saves in shutting out previously-undefeated Mount Aloysius, and Penn State Behrend eked out a 1-0 victory on a goal in the 87th minute Saturday to claim the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference regular-season title for the seventh time.
Jones extended her scoreless streak to 472.50 minutes as the visiting Lions notched their fifth consecutive AMCC win for an 8-0 record.
Penn State Behrend stands 10-6 with one game left before going into the AMCC Championship Tournament as the No. 1 seed with a bye into next week’s semifinals.
Mount Aloysius is 13-1-2 with a 7-1-1- AMCC regular-season finish.
Last Wednesday, Jones and Dana DiCamillo teamed up for an 8-0 shutout of Hilbert at Buffalo, N.Y.
They have combined for four shutouts, while Jones has blanked six other opponents and sports a .90 goals against average with 40 saves in 1,399.53 minutes.

FOOTBALL
GREENVILLE — Senior linebacker Dusty Maines (Clearfield) registered six solo tackles and assisted on one other stop for Thiel in a 41-7 Presidents’ Athletic Conference loss to visiting Carnegie Mellon at Alumni Stadium Saturday.
The Tomcats fell to 0-7 in the PAC and 0-8 overall.
Maines sits atop the Thiel defensive stats with 73 tackles, including 43 solo stops. He has three tackles for losses of eight yards, one a sack, and has forced one fumble.

KINGS POINT, N.Y. — Senior kicker/punter Spencer Herrington (Clearfield) was true on three extra point tries and a 26-yard field goal in Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s heart-breaking 25-24 loss to Merchant Marine Academy Saturday.
He was called on to punt seven times and averaged 32.6 yards with a long of 40 yards.
The 600 fans in Brook Stadium saw the Mariners rally from a 24-0 halftime deficit to pull out the key New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference win on a touchdown with just 38 seconds on the clock.
The Mariners moved to 4-1 in the NEWMAC and dropped the Engineers to 2-2.
Herrington is one of two NEWMAC kickers with 47 points and is first in PATs with 26. He is 7-for-9 in the field goal department.
His punting average is 37.2 yards for 35 kicks, two of which traveled 55 yards.

WILLIAMSPORT — Starting center Brad Stubbs (Curwensville) and backup lineman Nate Lash (Clearfield) joined forces with the big guys up front to get the Lycoming offense back on track Saturday as the Warriors rolled to a 52-0 rout of Alvernia, a first-year program.
A David Person Field crowd of 1,876 watched the Warriors amass 517 total yards with 24 first downs to climb back over .500 at 4-3 with a 3-2 Middle Atlantic Conference record.
