CASTINE, Maine — Senior kicker/punter Spencer Herrington (Clearfield) booted a career-high three field goals and converted three extra points to 12 total points for the second time as Worcester Polytechnic Institute rolled past host Maine Maritime 30-7 at Ritchie Field Saturday.
A crowd of 2,076 fans saw the Engineers (3-2) even their New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference record at 1-1.
Herrington was true on field goals of 30 and 24 yards and added a 26-yarder to complete the WPI scoring with 9:32 remaining.
He also averaged 33 yards on four punts.
Herrington leads NEWMAC kickers with 20 PATs and, with five field goals in seven tries, is second in kicking points with 35.
His average for 22 punts is 38.3 yards.

GREENVILLE — Senior linebacker Dusty Maines (Clearfield) made three solo tackles and assisted on four others for Thiel in a 24-21 loss to visiting Waynesburg in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference game that drew 1,261 fans into Alumni Stadium Saturday.
The Tomcats were in front 14-3 after one quarter but couldn’t hold on and tumbled to 0-4 in the PAC and 0-5 overall.
Maines still is tops for the Thiel defense in solo (26) and overall (48) tackles, with two for losses of five yards and one a sack. He also has forced one fumble.

WILLIAMSPORT — Senior center Brad Stubbs (Curwensville) and the Lycoming offense struggled against a tough King’s defense and managed only 216 yards in a 29-14 Middle Atlantic Conference loss in front of 1,011 fans at David Person Field Saturday.
The Warriors (3-2, 2-1 MAC) led 14-10 late in the first half but were held to just 51 yards in the last two quarters.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Western Michigan wide receiver Ryan Lezzer (Clearfield) saw his redshirt freshman season come to an end because of a leg injury that required surgery last month.

WOMEN”S SOCCER
ERIE — Freshman goalkeeper Madi Jones (Clearfield) added two more shutout wins to her credit as Penn State Behrend blanked Medaille (N.Y.) 6-0 and Pitt-Greensburg 2-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference home games last week.
She did not face a shot in her 80 minutes and 13 seconds in goal against Medaille and logged a save in Pitt-Greensburg’s lone shot on goal during her 90 minutes between the pipes in Saturday’s showdown of 2-0 AMCC teams.
Senior midfielder Tessa Munshower (Clearfield) played in both games and registered her first shot, on goal, in four appearances.
Jones’ record is 5-5 with four shutouts and 25 saves against 38 shots.
The Lions leveled their record at 5-5 with their third consecutive AMCC victory.

UNIVERSITY PARK — Freshman Alec Graham (Clearfield) posted a 92 for Penn State DuBois in a Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference Tournament at the Penn State Blue Course last week.
He placed 26th in the field of 55 golfers from 11 PSUAC schools.
The Lions were ninth with a four-player total of 375.
