The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is providing an update on an improvement project on Interstate 99 in Centre County.
The work zone encompasses a three-mile section of I-99 in College and Patton townships between the Atherton Street exit and the bridges spanning the Bellefonte Trail near the Waddle Road interchange.
The goal of the project is to improve ride quality and extend the useful life of the roadway.
Work through Sept. 21 includes:
- Sunday, Sept. 16 and Monday, Sept. 17, the contractor will continue paving the southbound passing lane and the southbound off and on ramps at the Waddle Road interchange and the southbound off ramp at the Valley Vista interchange. Work hours will be from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. using short term traffic control that will only be in place while work is taking place.
- Monday, Sept. 17, through Friday, Sept. 21, clean-up and worksite restoration work will continue during daylight hours on the north and southbound bridges spanning the Bellefonte Hiking Trail. Work will be on the underside of the bridges and will not impact traffic.
Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. of State College is the contractor for this $3.8 million project. It is expected to be complete by the end of September. All work is weather and schedule dependent.
