One photo shows the James E. Strates amusement rides being hauled into town to be set up on the Midway, at the Clearfield County Fairgrounds, in 1976.
Cathie Hughes, of Clearfield and a member of the Board of Directors of the Clearfield County Historical Society, retrieved the photos from the society’s files.
She remembers what excitement there was in Clearfield, as the rides were brought by rail on North Third Street and then trucked to the Clearfield Driving Park.
It was an annual event that showed that the fair was coming to town!
The other photo shows Mr. Strates, himself, posing on the Midway, with a few of his rides in the background.
The photos show the styles of bicycles, boy’s haircuts, as well as the men’s shirts and ties of the mid 1970’s.
