DUBOIS – On Monday night, members of DuBois City Council passed the second and final reading of Council Bill 1934.
The bill forbids commercial vehicle traffic on Main Street between DuBois Street and Dixon Avenue and on DuBois Street between DuBois Avenue and Main Street.
However, deliveries to and from properties along this stretch of roadway will be exempt. It was also noted that violators will be fined $500 per conviction.
City Engineer Chris Nasuti also reported that he had completed some research with regards to using stop signs to slow down the traffic.
After speaking with PennDOT officials, he learned that stop signs for speed control was not a valid justification.
According to him, valid concerns included placing stop signs due to volume and movement needs. That would cost $7,500 to $10,000.
Nasuti said that he was going to consider installing “no parking from here to corner” signs along Main Street.
In other business, council awarded the paving bid to New Enterprise with the lowest bid of $440,099.20.
The bid was contingent upon City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio and Nasuti being able to adjust the bid scope, as needed. The reason for this was due to the lowest bid coming in higher than expected.
In addition, council approved the lowest bid for the Memorial Park Phase II project. This includes court improvements and was awarded to Nagle Athletic Surfaces.
According to Suplizio, work will begin Aug. 13 and is expected to wrap up Aug. 31. During that time, the court won’t be available for use.
Council also approved the recommended bid for the water plant’s roof. The lowest bidder was All County Roofing in the amount of $50,000.
Councilwoman Diane Bernardo was excused from the meeting.
