CLEARFIELD – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today a detour remains in effect while work to replace a bridge spanning Big Run on Route 3007 (Douglas Road) in Pike Township continues. Work to replace the bridge, which is located approximately two miles northwest of the village of Olanta, with a box culvert began June 11.
Work was expected finish this week, but delays have pushed the expected completion date to July 12. Should work progress allow, PennDOT will re-open the bridge earlier. The contractor is scheduled to begin paving operations Monday, July 2.
The detour directs motorists to use Route 453, Zion Road (Route 2012), and Douglas Road (Route 3007). Residents of Douglas Road will be able to access their homes, with the road open only to local traffic. Motorists familiar with the area may choose alternate routes.
This project is a joint effort between PennDOT and Grannas Brothers Stone and Asphalt Co. Inc. of Hollidaysburg. PennDOT Clearfield County Maintenance performed excavation of the old box culvert and back-filling of the new box culvert. The contractor installed the new box and will now pave the approaches, roadway and install guide rail. All work is weather dependent,
The 17-foot bridge dated back to 1929 and carried an average of nearly 400 vehicles daily. Replacing it allows PennDOT to remove it from the list of structurally deficient bridges in Clearfield County.
Drivers are reminded to follow detour signs, obey posted speed limits, and always buckle up.
