HYDE — Jake Sorbera and Bryce Timko teamed up for a two-hitter, Timko and Allan Myers came through with clutch two-out singles for three runs and the Clearfield American Legion baseball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 4-0 win over DuBois at the Bison Sports Complex Monday evening.
The John Lewis Shade Post 6 Chiefs leveled their record at 5-5 with their second victory in five Jefferson County League games.
Sorbera pitched four innings to earn his second win, striking out seven while allowing one hit and two walks.
Timko faced only nine batters over the final three frames for his first save. He recorded five punchouts and gave up one hit, erasing that runner by catching him breaking off first base on a steal attempt.
Timko also had what proved to be the game-winning hit in the first inning, rolling a single through the right side to chase home Thayne Morgan and Nate Barr. Morgan had legged out a bouncer to third base and raced to third on a single to center by Barr, who moved up on a stolen base.
Clearfield had scored only two first-inning runs in its previous nine games.
Myers made it 3-0 in the fourth inning when he singled up the middle after Zane Morgan had ripped a triple to left center.
The Chiefs tacked on another run in the sixth as Thayne Morgan lashed a single to center, advanced to third base on a steal and a passed ball and scored on Eli Glass’ rope to right field that chased DuBois starter Jeremy Krise, who had three strikeouts with no walks.
Thayne Morgan and Myers each had two of Clearfield’s nine hits.
The Chiefs will be back in action Wednesday in a home game against league-leading Punxsutawney/Brookville.
