Lady Bison’s Cline, Bishop Selected To All-ML First Team

TYRONE — Clearfield Area High School senior shortstop Brooke Cline was named to the All-Mountain League First Team for the third year in a row and was joined by senior left fielder Aspen Bishop in voting by the head coaches that was announced at the annual spring sports banquet in Tyrone Area High School May 20.

Cline becomes one of very few four-time Mountain League All-Stars as she was selected to the second team as a freshman.

The Clarion University commit led the 9-12 Lady Bison in most offensive categories, opening the season with seven multi-hit games and adding four more during a 13-game streak that was snapped in the nine-inning, 5-4 District 9 Class AAAA semifinal loss at St. Marys.

Cline was tops in batting average (.528), hits (38), doubles (10), triples (3), runs (33), walks (11) and stolen bases (8). She was second in runs batted in (22) and also had two home runs.

Bishop had team-highs in home runs (6) and RBIs (31) and was second or tied for second in several other stats.

She capped her four-year career with 37 hits for a .481 average with five doubles and 21 runs.

Bishop has signed to play at Penn College in Williamsport.

Bald Eagle Area first baseman Mackenzie McCloskey, Bellefonte outfielder Mallorie Smith and Central catcher Camryn Feathers are the other first-team repeaters, the latter tabbed as one of two designated players last year.

The second unit features four players who were on the 2017 first team, pitcher Kamryn Harris, catcher Kylie Thal and outfielder Maddie Lucas of Philipsburg-Osceola and infielder Olivia Smith of Central. Harris was named the offensive pitcher last season and also was picked as the second-team pitcher.

Infielders Lydia Collison of Penns Valley and Jenna Ritchey of Central were second-team selections for the second time. Ritchey received first-team laurels as a sophomore.

Mountain League final standings — Philipsburg-Osceola 13-1, Bald Eagle Area 11-3, Bellefonte 11-3, Central 7-7, Penns Valley 5-9, Tyrone 5-9, Clearfield 4-10, Huntingdon 0-14.
