DUBOIS – An undisclosed number of residents were able to escape from an apartment fire in DuBois on Saturday morning.
According to reports, the fire was called in at 9:56 a.m. at 322 W. Long Ave., in DuBois. The building was home to Mike’s Lock and Hardware store, as well as several apartments on two floors.
The original report stated that there were numerous people trapped inside the building. However, all residents were able to evacuate the building safely.
Several witnesses at the fire reported a man being rescued from the roof of the building by firefighters.
Numerous firefighters from both Clearfield and Jefferson counties responded to the call and the American Red Cross was also contacted to provide food and water to firefighters and residents.
Several other fire companies were put on transfer and stand-by assignments while crews battled the fire.
Several businesses in the area are without power.
The fire is believed to have originated on the first floor of the building and is under investigation at this time. Early reports indicate that the building may be a total loss.
