CLEARFIELD – Tuesday was Primary Election Day for the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Voters determined the candidates who will appear on the ballot in November’s General Election.
Clearfield County has 46,369 registered voters with 23,725 being Republican and 17,266 being Democrat.
Polling places saw a total of 8,709 voters, an 18.78 percent turnout. Of the ballots cast, 5,533 were by Republicans and 3,176 were by Democrats.
The offices up for election were U.S. Senator and U.S. Representative to the 15th Congressional District; governor and lieutenant governor; and state representatives to the 73rd and 75th Districts.
In the primary, Robert Casey Jr. was running unopposed on the Democratic side for U.S. Senator. On the Republican ballot were candidates, Lou Barletta and James Christiana.
Barletta, a congressman, won the Republican nomination and will face Casey in the fall.
For the 15th Congressional District, U.S. Rep. Glenn “GT” Thompson was running unopposed on the Republican ballot.
On the Democratic side were candidates, Wade Jodun and Susan Boser. Boser won the Democratic nomination for the 15th District and will face Thompson.
For the Pennsylvania governor’s office, Tom Wolf was running unopposed on the Democratic side. On the Republican ballot, there were three candidates, Laura Ellsworth, Paul Mango and Scott R. Wagner.
Wagner, a Pennsylvania senator, came out on top in the three-candidate race for the Republican nomination. He will be Wolf’s challenger.
For lieutenant governor, there were five candidates on the Democratic ballot, including Nina Ahmad, Kathi Cozzone, John Fetterman, Ray Sosa and Lt. Gov. Mike Stack.
There were four Republican candidates, including Jeff Bartos, Kathy Coder, Peg Luksik and Diana Irey Vaughan.
Fetterman ousted Stack for the Democratic nomination. He will face Bartos, who won the Republican side to be Wagner’s running-mate.
Both State Reps. Tommy Sankey and Matt Gabler, Republicans, were running unopposed. There weren’t any candidates on the Democratic side.
