SHEFFIELD – With a double header sweep of Sheffield on Tuesday the Curwensville Area High School girls softball squad moved two games above the .500 mark at 9-7 on the 2018 season.
It was a total offensive day for the Lady Tide, scoring a total of 41 runs in gaining a 25-5 win in the opener and then a 16-1 nightcap victory.
Both games were called early due to the mercy rule coming into play.
GAME 1
The Lady Wolverines actually trailed just 7-4 after the first three innings in game one, but then Curwensville got busy with three tallies in the top half of the fourth inning and then a gigantic 15 more in the top of the fifth.
Several Lady Tide had big days at the plate with Abby Pentz picking up five hits while Lauren Tozer added three and Sabrina Spencer, Bailey Bloom, Ariel Zattoni and Anne Hoover all chipped in with two each.
Tozer had four RBI’s, with Zattoni and Emma Caldwell knocking in three teammates each.
Caldwell’s three RBIs came on a base loaded, pinch hit triple.
Pentz, Tozer and Logan Sheeder each smacked a double in Curwensville’s 20-hit barrage.
Mya Grubbs was the hitting star for Sheffield with three hits that included a double and a fifth inning solo home run.

GAME 2
Curwensville pitcher Clerissia Cole picked up the win from the circle in the second game, limiting the Lady Wolverines to just three hits and one run in the 16-1 romp.
Curwensville didn’t waste any time getting started in game two with a six run first inning followed by four runs in the second, and three each in both the third and fourth innings.
The Lady Tide ended the game with those three runs in the bottom of the fourth with no outs as the mercy rule was once again enforced.
Abby Pentz and Logan Sheeder had three hits apiece to pace the Tide offense while Bailey Bloom picked up two hits, both being doubles.
One of the hits by Pentz was a triple. Pentz over the last four games has gone 11 for 15 at the plate.
Sheeder knocked in three runs for the Tide.
For the Wolverines, Childress had two hits that included a double.
With the two wins the Lady Tide now qualify for the upcoming District 9 AA playoffs that begin later this month.
The Lady Tide have its work cut out for them again on Wednesday when they host Kane in a doubleheader with game one starting at 3:15 pm.
