BELLEFONTE — Aspen Bishop and Kate Lansberry belted home runs for the second day in a row and were two of four Clearfield girls with multi-hit games, but the Bellefonte bats were hot, too, and the Lady Raiders turned back the Lady Bison 16-11 in high school softball action at O’Leary Fields Tuesday.
Bellefonte, which had six players with more than one hit, tied Philipsburg-Osceola for first place in the Mountain League lead with its eighth consecutive win. The Lady Raiders are 10-1 with a 7-1 league record.
The make-up game loss dropped Clearfield to 3-4 in the league and 4-5 overall.
Lansberry and Abby Fedder had three hits apiece while Bishop and Karly Rumsky added two apiece for the Lady Bison, who held leads of 2-0 and 6-2 early.
Brooke Cline singled ahead of Bishop’s two-run homer in the first inning, her fourth of the season, but Rianna Trexler got the Lady Raiders even with a two-run double.
In the second frame, Lansberry broke the tie with her homer after Fedder singled. Then, Lindsay Hand was hit by a pitch and Mackenzie Lansberry doubled ahead of run-scoring hits by Rumsky and Bishop.
Bellefonte forged another tie on three walks, two hits and two passed balls and inched ahead 7-6 with a single marker in the third inning.
Hanna Lauck’s two-run double and Wetzler’s RBI single widened the gap to 10-6 in the fifth, but the Lady Bison made it a one-run game again in the top of the sixth.
Fedder led off with a single and circled the sacks on walks to Kate Lansberry, Hand and Mackenzie Lansberry. Rumsky and Cline drove in runs with forceouts.
A solo home run by Maddie Tice touched off a six-run outburst by the Lady Raiders in the lower sixth, with Lauck doubling for two RBIs and Mallorie Smith singled across another run before a Lady Bison misplay let in two more tallies.
Hand closed out the scoring with a single that plated Fedder and Kate Lansberry in the seventh inning.
Erica Hanes started for Clearfield and gave up five hits, three walks and six runs in two innings. Fedder finished up and was the losing hurler, allowing 11 hits, two walks and 10 runs, only four of which were earned.
Lexi Rogers was the winning pitcher, working five-plus innings and surrendering 11 hits and nine runs. She walked two batters and hit two. Smith pitched the final two frames, giving up three hits and two runs.
Top hitters for Bellefonte were Wetzler with three hits, Lauck with the two doubles and four RBIs, Trexler with two hits and three RBIs and Smith and Emma DeHaas with two hits apiece.
The Lady Bison get a rematch with the Lady Raiders Thursday at the Bison Sports Complex.
