DUBOIS – On Monday night, members of DuBois City Council decided to postpone its action in relation to the parking issue on Overlook Drive.
The issue stemmed from council’s doubts of fire engines and emergency vehicles being able to navigate the condo community with cars regularly parked along both sides of the road.
Before Thursday’s work session, councilmen Randy Schmidt and Edward Walsh went to the community. It was their recommendation to ban parking on both sides of the road.
The council subsequently put it to vote, with the recommendation passing 4-0. Councilman Jim Aughenbaugh was absent from that meeting.
“They’re asking us to give them some time to work something out with their landlord,” said City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio on Monday night.
It was noted that prior to the council meeting, both Aughenbaugh and Suplizio discussed the parking issue with residents of Overlook Drive.
According to Suplizio, the affected residents would like to present possible remedies to the community’s landlord first. He noted that: “They realize they have a problem.”
In other business, officials issued a reminder that anti-skid is to be cleaned from community sidewalks by May 15. The council also added that the anti-skid shouldn’t be swept onto roads.
“It is not to go into the roads. It will not be picked up. It is detrimental to our street sweeper,” said Councilwoman Diane Bernardo.
Council also reported that there is an investigation ongoing into a break-in at Showers Field. During the incident, someone allegedly broke locks at the field and stole food from the concession stand.
Suplizio said it could cost a few thousand dollars to properly repair the locks. Aside from the stolen supplies, he didn’t reveal any other damages.
