CLEARFIELD – A Curwensville man has been accused of possessing a balloon containing drugs at the Clearfield County Jail.
Joseph Clayton Ralston III, 38, has been charged by Officer Jonathan C. Walker of the Lawrence Township police with contraband/controlled substance, F2; possession controlled substance contraband/inmate, F2; and contraband/non-controlled substance, M1.
On Wednesday Ralston had all charges bound over to court following a preliminary hearing during centralized court at the jail. His bail has been set at $50,000.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Sept. 26, 2017, Walker was requested to meet with a corrections officer at the Clearfield County Jail. The CO had searched an inmate, Ralston, and his property.
The search yielded a balloon wrapped in toilet paper that was inside a request slip in Ralston’s hand.
Inside the balloon, there was allegedly a bag containing an unknown white crystal substance; a bag with an unknown powder; and a bag with eight round, pink pills and 11 yellow pills.
Ralston was taken back to his cell after the suspected drugs were removed from his possession.
Walker sent the evidence to the Erie Regional Laboratory for a detailed analysis. A report identified the evidence items as methamphetamine and Oxycodone.
