PENFIELD – Staff members at the Parker Dam State Park have announced its program schedule for April 21-29.
Saturday, April 21
Woodsy Owl Volunteer Day:
9 a.m. – meet at Campground Host Site (No. 107)
A variety of projects at various skill levels will be available to volunteers. Friday, April 20, campsites will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The normal overnight camping fee (for April 20-21) will not be charged in agreement that campers participate in both the Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon work sessions that will be used to spruce up the park for the upcoming summer season.
Volunteers are also welcome to come out to the park just for the day. Aside from the free weekend of camping, participants will experience the rewards of volunteering in the outdoors and improving natural and recreational resources.
Woodsy Owl Awards:
5 p.m. – Modern Campground
A lot of effort and hard work was put in around the park today. Volunteers will be recognized for their efforts and can learn what they and other volunteers have helped to accomplish through-out the day. You can come and enjoy some fellowship with other park volunteers.
Sunday, April 22
43rd Annual Kid’s Fishing Derby
8 a.m. – 9 a.m. – Registration; 9 a.m. -11:30 a.m. – Fishing in Parker Lake
Please note: This event is not sponsored by the park. Children ages 3-13 can participate in this free fishing derby.
Adults may assist their children following Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission guidelines.

Saturday, April 28
WoodcockWatch:
8:15 p.m. – Tornado Display (near Tyler Cabin)
Learn about this common, but not well-known bird. The hope will be to witness the song and display of the male woodcock during the evening twilight. Dress for the weather and no pets.
Sunday, April 29
Full Moon Rise and Hike:
7:30 p.m. – Beach House
Join us at the beach area to watch the April full moon rise over the lake. Moon phases and eclipses will be explained, followed by a short hike.
