DUBOIS – A DuBois man will stand trial for allegedly throwing his mother out of a vehicle at a stoplight.
Vincent Michael Foringer, 19, was charged by Sandy Township police with two counts each of simple assault and recklessly endangering another person after an incident on March 16.
On Friday he waived his right to a preliminary hearing during centralized court. He remains in the Clearfield County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, police received a report from several witnesses of a young male ripping an older female out of the driver’s seat of a vehicle and throwing her to the pavement at the intersection of state Route 255 and Interstate 80.
When police arrived, Foringer was in the driver’s seat. The victim, his mother, was crying and her entire back side was dirty with road salt and anti-skid from the road.
She told police she picked her son up from the interstate where he had just crashed his vehicle. She had to remove him from the scene because he was agitated and mad at the officers handling the accident.
Prior to him crashing the vehicle, he had been pulled over for driving 96 miles per hour on the interstate, she said. He was released from that traffic stop and only traveled a few miles before he crashed, police said.
While they were in the car, he was highly agitated and stated that he wanted to shoot himself. At this point, she reportedly decided she was going to take him to the emergency room for a mental health evaluation.
As she left the interstate, she was trying to turn right toward the hospital. This is when he allegedly “flipped out” from the back seat and opened the driver’s side door and began trying to remove her from the car.
She reported to police that he was able to get her out of the car and throw her to the pavement.
Police transported him to Penn Highlands DuBois for a mental evaluation. On the way, he was still highly agitated.
While in the emergency room, Foringer made numerous statements that he was not staying at the hospital and did not want to be evaluated. Many times he said he was going to run out of the hospital, police said.
Because he was being so uncooperative, it was decided that Foringer be transported to the Clearfield County Jail to be arraigned on domestic assault charges.
On the way out of the hospital, Foringer allegedly became more agitated, pulling away from the officer in an attempt to flee. Foringer, who was in handcuffs, had to be taken to the ground before the officers gained control of him and transported him to the jail.
One of the officers, who spoke with the victim at the hospital, noted that she had substantial swelling and bruising to her right check and temple, according to the report.
