CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County DUI Strike Force will conduct and participate in roving patrols over St. Patrick’s Day weekend as part of a statewide impaired driving enforcement initiative.
“It’s not our goal to ruin anyone’s life by arresting them for DUI,” said Sergeant Nathan Curry of the Clearfield Borough Police Department.
“It’s our goal to make sure that everyone else on the roadway doesn’t have their lives ruined by that person that chose to drive impaired.”
Motorists are urged to celebrate responsibly. Impairment begins with the first drink, and the safest choices are to never drive drunk or accept a ride for someone who has been drinking.
If you plan to drink, select a designated driver beforehand and always remember to buckle up.
According to preliminary PennDOT 2017 data, there were 28 alcohol-related crashes on St. Patrick’s Day. National Highway Traffic Safety Association data from 2012 to 2016 shows that 269 people were killed in drunk driving crashes during the St. Patrick’s Day Holiday period.
Sixty of those fatalities occurred in 2016 alone. Almost three-fourths (69 percent) of crash fatalities between midnight and 5:59 a.m. March 18, 2016, involved a drunk driver.
