DUBOIS – On Monday night, the DuBois City Council voted to award the bid for the Main Street area of the DuBois streetscape project.
Dave Roman Construction submitted the lowest bid, which was $2,284,600.28. City officials received five bids for the project.
The project is expected to get under way in April with completion to take approximately four months.
When asked about any potential impact on Community Days, City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio explained that this part of the project – if started – would need to be completed before the event.
“They can’t leave any holes or equipment in the way,” added City Engineer Joe Mitchell.
In other business, council member Diane Bernardo said she followed up on questions she’d raised at the March 8 work session in regards to the Clearfield County Commissioners seeking to have areas designated as “Opportunity Zones.”
Bernardo said she’d learned that the designations were determined at the state level based upon declining income levels, job growth and populations.
According to her, DuBois City and both Clearfield and Curwensville Borough were eligible. Investors in “Opportunity Zones” would be eligible for capital gain tax reductions.
The applications were submitted and notifications should be received by the end of the month, Bernardo said.
