Betty J. Bracken, 94, of DuBois and formerly of Mahaffey, died Monday, March 12, 2018 at Christ the King Manor.
Born July 16, 1923 in Parma, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Agnes (Palsho) Postlethwait.
On Aug. 17, 1963, she married Jack Bracken. He preceded her in death in October of 1998.
She was a 1941 graduate of the DuBois Area High School and received a Bachelor’s degree in education from Slippery Rock University.
She retired as a physical education teacher in DuBois, Reynoldsville and Kane after many years of service.
She was a member of the St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church. She was a tutor for the Mid State Literacy Council, previously involved with the Girl Scouts of America and was also an avid reader.
She was cared for locally be her nephews, George Postlethwait of Rockton and John Bracken and his wife, Phyllis of Mahaffey as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Ronald Bracken and her brother, George Postlethwait.
Friends will be received from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. Thursday at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc. A scriptural wake service will be prayed at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant.
Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Clover Run Cemetery, Bell Township, Clearfield County.
Memorials may be placed with the charity of the donor’s choice.
