Jack R. Chewning, 74, of DuBois died Sunday, March 4, 2018 at his home. Born May 31, 1943 in Mabie, W.Va., he is the son of the late Virgil R. and Juanita Geraldine Pearl (Emigh) Chewning.
On Aug. 21, 1965, he married his wife of 52 years, Judy L. (Kelly) Chewning. She survives.
He, along with his wife and family, operated LaRue’s Hillside Restaurant and Tavern. He retired from Owens Brockway after many years of service.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed gardening and going to the casino.
Mr. Chewning was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves. He was also a member of the Olympic Athletic Club; George D. Montgomery American Legion Post 17; Independent Political and Social Club; and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 965 in Falls Creek. He enjoyed children as a bus driver and youth soccer coach.
He is survived by four children, Kelly Chewning and her companion, Brian Baird, Christine Bernardo and Ronald Chewning and his wife, Tracy, all of DuBois, and Amanda “Amy” Blakley and her husband, David of Sykesville.
He is also survived by three siblings, Jerry Chewning of Ravenna, Ohio, J. Joanne Papanicolas of Lincoln, Calif., and Kenneth Chewning of Big Run and 10 grandchildren, Sarah Hook, Rebekah Shilala, Beau Bernardo, Nick, Tony and Jessica Blakley and Brooke, Aaron, Isaiah and Emelia Chewning.
He was preceded in death by his step-father, Joseph Turner and a brother, Virgil Chewning II.
Friends will be received from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Troutville Trinity United Church of Christ.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Troutville Trinity United Church of Christ with Pastor Audra Krise and Pastor Barry Fillman co-officiating.
Burial will be in the Troutville Trinity United Church of Christ Cemetery.
The Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
