Thomas “Tom” L. Hendricks, 79, of Rockton died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018 at home surrounded by the love of his family.
He was born Sept. 10, 1938 at the home of his grandmother, the son of the late Theodore Cletus “Clete” and Roxie (Brubaker) Hendricks.
He attended school at the DuBois Area School District.
His career path took him into the carpentry field, where he worked for DuBois Tool & Electric. Later he became a member of the Local No. 947 Carpenter’s Union, where he recently celebrated 45 years of service.
His passion for construction and carpentry led him to open and operate Hendricks Excavating Service. He served as a Union Township Supervisor and officially retired in 1999.
On Nov. 17, 1956, he married the love of his life, MaryAnn Nelson, at the Lutheran church parsonage by the Rev. Leland K. Fackler. They celebrated 61 glorious years of marriage before his passing.
He had a passion and love for community initiatives, and he deeply enjoyed volunteering.
He was a lifetime member of the Union Township Volunteer Fire Co.; a founding member of the Union Township Park Board; and a “project foreman” to any and all of his family and friends, both solicited and unsolicited.
Working and volunteering kept him busy, but he had plenty of time for his many recreational activities.
In addition to his love for hunting and fishing, he was a member of the Rockton Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club, a pitcher for the Federation Baseball league, a member of the Rockton Softball League, a rec league volleyball player and an avid golfer in numerous leagues.
He enjoyed professional sports and was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates fan.
He was a proud husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He took a great deal of pride in the many milestones he celebrated with his family.
He had the gift to talk, and he left everyone with a laugh and smile. He will be remembered as a character and leaves all that knew him with a special memory.
He is survived by his loving wife, MaryAnn and four children, James (Sandy) Hendricks of DuBois and Penny (Steve) Orcutt, JoAnn (Kelly) Kalgren and Thomas Hendricks, all of Rockton.
He is survived by eight grandchildren, James (Emily) Hendricks of Pittsburgh, Adriene (Stephanie) Harris of Tampa, Fla., Jamie (Mike) Straub, Scott (Gabby) Orcutt, Kalley Hendricks and Kolby Hendricks, all of Rockton, Kyle Hendricks of Erie and Klay Hendricks of DuBois and seven great-grandchildren.
He is survived by one sister, Geraldine Spicher of Rockton as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Daniel Hendricks and a grandson, Damian Harris.
Friends and family will be received from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Sunday at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc. A private funeral service will be held.
