Doris J (Dorie) Hyatt, 89, of DuBois and formerly of Clear Run, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2018 at the DuBois Nursing Home.
She was born Nov. 2, 1928 in Sandy Township, a daughter of the late Florence Margaret (Heberling) Hyatt and William Kenneth Hyatt.
She attended Clear Run School until the eighth grade. She was a graduate of the Sandy Township High School in the class of 1946.
She made her home in Clear Run with her parents and twin sisters, Gin and Viv, and sister, Phyllis. They lived on the family farm and home of the Hyatt Dairy.
When asked about her childhood, she would fondly remember rounding up the cows, the milk house, working with her dad to plant corn and make hay and gathering eggs.
She would also fondly remember helping with canning, clothing made by her mom out of printed feed bags, swimming in a nearby pond and enjoying her mom’s special baked beans.
Her first job was washing dishes in the kitchen at the Pershing Restaurant. She also worked at Jeffers Electronics one week shy of 25 years.
She retired from Rola Jensen. She purchased her first car, a Chevy, while working at Rola. Before that, she walked.
She remained her family’s driver for her twin sisters until entering the DuBois Village in December of 2009. This was her home for four years, and she treasured the friendships she made there.
She took advantage of every activity offered, both there and at the DuBois Nursing Home, where she spent her remaining days. She was an avid Bingo player.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Vivian and Virginia.
She is survived by her sister, Phyllis Pierce of Erie; a niece, Nancy Baker and her husband, Neil of West Columbia, SC; and a nephew, Charles Pierce and his wife, Cheryl of Erie.
She was a member of the Lakeside United Methodist Church. She appreciated the many cards sent to her from Lakeside’s parishioners for many years.
There will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to Lakeside United Methodist Church, 420 First St., DuBois, Pa 15801.
