ST. MARYS — With 13 players in the scoring column, once-beaten Elk County Catholic defeated Curwensville 78-46 in Allegheny Mountain League boys basketball action Tuesday night for its second five-game winning streak of the season.
The Crusaders outscored the Golden Tide in every quarter, opening a 38-20 lead by halftime.
Devan Barrett had 10 points and Christian Bakaysa added nine for the Golden Tide, who lost leading scorer Josh Terry two minutes after the tip-off because of an ankle injury.
Terry’s 20-point average ranked No. 4 among all District 9 teams, according to statistics compiled by D9Sports.com.
Ryan Newton was high for the Crusaders with 16 points, while Logan Hoffman and Brady Schneider contributed 13 and 10, respectively.
The Crusaders, whose lone loss was 45-32 to Ridgway in the Elk County Holiday Tournament championship game, lead the AML-North Division at 5-0.
The Golden Tide, 1-2 in the AML-South Division and 5-5 overall, will be back on their home court Friday to test Kane in an AML game. The Wolves go into Wednesday’s league game with Johnsonburg at 5-3.
A twice-postponed AML-South game with Brockway has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 30, athletic director Allen Leigey announced.
Elk County Catholic’s junior varsity also was victorious, 58-16.
