MEADVILLE – The 39th Annual Tool City kicked off Friday night, and the Clearfield Bison put two wrestlers in the semi-finals. Of 22 teams, Clearfield is in the middle of the pack, sitting at 14th place with 49.5 points. Leading the tournament is Seneca Valley, who have all their wrestlers returning for the second day of action with 125 points. They’re well ahead of Harbor Creek, who’re in second place with 101.5 points.
Bison seniors Matt Ryan (9-1) and Luke McGonigal (10-0) are in the semi’s, after they each won two contests.
Ryan won at 126 with a tech-fall over Brockway’s Adam Stine in the preliminaries before edging Shaler Area’s Dylan Winters 4-3 in the quarterfinals. He wrestle’s number one seed Tye Varndell of Cambridge Springs Saturday morning.
McGonigal bumped up to 195 for this tournament and spent less than two minutes on the mat. He pinned Sharpsville’s Kevin Evans in 32 seconds and Lakeview’s Sawyer Daugherty in 1:07. He will wrestle Eisenhower’s Matt Hulling in Saturday morning’s semifinals.
Alive in the consolation bracket are junior Caleb Freeland (6-4) at 145 and senior Hunter Wright (3-7) at 160.
