Jack E. “Swede” Peterson, 88, of DuBois died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017 at the DuBois Nursing Home.
Born Dec. 28, 1928, he was the son of the late Fred E. and Clara V. (Pierce) Peterson.
On Aug. 25, 1950, he married Barbara “Bubbles” (Smyers) Peterson. She survives.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a superintendent for various construction companies in the DuBois area for more than 50 years.
He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in DuBois, where he had served as an elder.
He was a member of the James J. Patterson Post 813 Veterans of Foreign Wars, the George D. Montgomery American Legion Post 17 and the Pennsylvania Wildlife Habitat.
He was a past member of DuBois City Council, and he enjoyed hunting, golfing and his family.
He is survived by a daughter, Peggy Wilson and her husband, Richard of DuBois; a son, Gary Peterson and his wife, Lesley of Round Hill, Va.; and a brother, Charles Peterson and his wife, Pinky of DuBois.
He is survived by five grandchildren, Brian Wilson of DuBois, Heather Wilson of Alaska and Kelly Peterson, Kacie Barton and Andrew Peterson, all of Virginia, and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arnold and Fred Peterson and three sisters, Virginia Haines, Jean Wachob and Elaine Flick.
There will be no public visitation. A private family service will be held from the First United Presbyterian Church.
