HUNTINGDON – The Huntingdon boys high school basketball team had five players in double figures Friday night in defeating visiting Clearfield, 85-62, in Mountain League (ML) action.
The Bearcats improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the ML, while Clearfield is now 1-2 on the season and 0-2 in Mountain League play.
Clearfield held its own against the Bearcats in the first quarter, taking the lead at 8-7 with 4:24 to go in the first on a three pointer by freshman Karson Rumsky.
Huntingdon then went on an 8-0 run that enabled them to take a 15-10 margin into the second quarter.
With junior Owen Lane scoring eight second quarter points, the Bearcats extended its lead to 40-24 at the half thanks to winning the second eight minutes 25-14.
Bison senior Wyatt Porter quickly came out to start the second half with a three-pointer at the 7:49 mark that looked like Clearfield would get back into the contest.
However, the Bearcats would end up with its biggest offensive quarter with 29 tallies thanks to seven points each from Lane and Andrew Miller off of the bench.
Only the final score would be the remaining unknown on the night as Huntingdon was comfortably in front 69-41 with just eight minutes to play.
Clearfield actually won the fourth quarter by five points, 21-16, thanks to some top notch shooting by Porter.
The Bison guard racked up 14 points in the final frame thanks to four treys that made him high point on the night for Clearfield with 19.
Sophomore Cade Walker added 10 for Clearfield who also had a good night overall at the foul line as the Bison hit on 15 of 21 free throw attempts.
Lane paced Huntingdon with 21 points while Nick Rigby scored 17 followed by Miller with 13 and Jonathan Price and Jackson Ritchey in each scoring 11.
The Bearcats took 31 free throws, making good on 15 of them.
The Clearfield junior varsity team defeated Huntingdon in the first game by a score of 40-21.
Next up for the Bison is another road trip, on Wednesday, to Bellefonte, another Mountain League opponent.
