CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County will soon have a new supervisor in its adult probation department.
On Tuesday the commissioners approved hiring Shawn F. Burkhart of Coalport. He will start in the probation department Dec. 20.
Prior to the commissioners’ meeting, the salary board set Burkhart’s salary at $45,000 annually per a request made by President Judge Fredric Ammerman.
Ammerman touted Burkhart’s qualifications and experience, saying “he’s just what we need here.” He went on to say that both he and Probation Director Don McClusick were very excited about Burkhart upon interviewing him.
According to Ammerman, Burkhart served in the Franklin County Adult Probation Department for more than 20 years. He started out as a probation officer and ended his tenure as the deputy chief probation officer.
He said Burkhart spent more than 10 years in his supervisory position, and that Franklin County has a larger probation department than Clearfield County. He left his position in August and is now living in the Coalport area.
Ammerman said it was also noteworthy that Burkhart is a veteran of the Army Reserve. He served more than 21 years, which included two deployments to the Middle East.
Burkhart is originally from Patton and a graduate of the Cambria Heights High School.
After the personnel report Tuesday, the commissioners also approved the separation of Lisa Redden, adult probation supervisor/probation department. It was listed as effective Nov. 30.
