CLEARFIELD – A 44-year-old Clearfield man, Richard Lynn Warren, has been accused of assaulting a woman during a domestic dispute.
Warren was originally charged by Officer Levi Olson of the Lawrence Township police with strangulation, F2; simple assault, M2; recklessly endangering another person, M2; disorderly conduct, M3; and two summaries.
Warren waived all charges to court, with exception to the count of felony strangulation. The strangulation charge was withdrawn at his preliminary hearing during centralized court Wednesday.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, at approximately 2:05 a.m. Nov. 22, Olson and Officer Charles Marshall responded to a reported physical domestic dispute on Lewis Road.
While officers were en route to the scene, Clearfield County Dispatch advised that Warren had shut off the electricity to the house. The phone had also been disconnected. Clearfield Borough police were requested to provide assistance.
Upon arrival, officers searched around the house but didn’t make contact with anyone. Olson made contact with the victim and her daughter.
The electricity was still out in the house, and the females advised Warren was somewhere outside. Olson asked if the electricity had been shut off in the basement, and they said yes and gave him permission to turn it back on.
When Olson made entry, he noticed the basement door was difficult to open. He then reset the main breaker and went back upstairs. Marshall, along with Clearfield Borough officers, had found Warren and taken him into custody.
During an interview, the victim said she was at the bar with Warren earlier, and they were playing darts. They began arguing on their way home because she had won. She said when they got home, their argument became physical.
Warren allegedly began choking her while she was in the passenger’s seat, pressing his forearm against her throat. Olson observed redness across the victim’s throat, which was consistent with her story.
Warren stopped and they exited the vehicle. While going inside the house, she said they began arguing again over the location of her phone charger since her phone was dead.
Warren shoved her into the couch, she said, and she shoved him back away from her. When she got up, Warren allegedly shoved her again, which knocked her into the television.
Olson observed that the television was cracked on its left side. The candle warmer, which was next to it, was pushed into the wall.
The victim said her hand went into candle warmer when Warren shoved her into the television. Her hand felt like it had been burned by the wax.
While Olson didn’t observe any redness on her left hand, he did observe broken skin on her right forearm. The victim’s daughter confirmed this story, as she walked into the living room while it was happening.
Warren was located in the driver’s seat of a vehicle outside and was removed to be placed into the police unit. He was taken to county jail on a 48-hour detainer due to being manifestly under the influence of alcohol.
