Joy M. Michaels, 54, of Curwensville died Nov. 19, 2017 at her residence. She was an angel here on earth who is now an angel in heaven.
She was born March 15, 1963 at Clearfield, the daughter of the late Stanley and Lucy (Verrelli) Yarwasky.
She was a 1981 graduate of the St. Francis School. She attended the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Punxsutawney; she graduated from cosmetology school in DuBois.
She was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church of Curwensville.
She had formerly been employed by Sherwin Williams of Clearfield for 17 years.
She is survived by her husband, James A. Michaels, to whom she was wed Aug. 20, 1983 at the St. Timothy’s Roman Catholic Church, Curwensville.
She is survived by three sons, Patrick and his wife, Cassandra and Eric and his wife, Maura, all of Curwensville, and Philip and his wife, Haylie of Sharpsville, Pa.; a daughter, Rachel and her husband, David Swatsworth of Clearfield; and Mark Kelly of Curwensville, a friend who has been like a son to her. She is survived by four grandchildren, Owen, Maci and Annabelle Michaels and Blair Swatsworth.
She is survived by two brothers and five sisters, Stanley and his wife, Donna of San Jose, Calif., Suzanne and her husband, Robert Curthoys of Folsom, Calif., Gloria and her husband, Joseph Crawshaw of Paradise, Pa., Patty Lippart and her fiancé, James Mack of East New Market, Md., Janet and her husband, Rodger Porter of LeContes Mills, Frank Yarwasky and his wife, Carolyn of Gardnerville, Nev., and Diane and her husband, Shane Spencer of Madera. She is survived by 18 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Lona Michaels of Glen Richey; brother-in-law, Bryan Michaels of Glen Richey; and sister-in-law, Kristi Heichel of Smoke Run.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law, Willard (Jim) Michaels; and an infant sister, Mary.
Honoring Mrs. Michaels’ wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral services.
Reed Funeral Home in Houtzdale is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Penn Highlands Dubois Hospice, 100 Hospital Ave., DuBois, PA 15801.
There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Dec. 16 at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, Curwensville.
