CLEARFIELD ? Nov. 25 has been proclaimed Small Business Saturday in Clearfield by Mayor James Schell.
Clearfield officials believe small businesses are the backbone of the economy and the glue that holds communities together.
According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, there are currently 28 million small businesses in the United States.
These represent more than 99 percent of American companies, create two-thirds of the net new jobs and generate half of private gross domestic product.
Additionally, small businesses employ one-half of employees in the private sector in the United States.
Ninety-three percent of U.S. consumers believe it?s important to support the local, small businesses they value in their community.
Eighty-nine percent agree that locally-owned, independent businesses contribute positively through paying taxes and providing jobs.
Clearfield officials support local businesses that create jobs, boost the local economy and preserve their neighborhoods.
It was noted that advocacy groups and public and private organizations nationwide have endorsed the Saturday after Thanksgiving as Small Business Saturday.
Schell encourages all Clearfield citizens to support small businesses and merchants on not only Small Business Saturday, but also throughout the entire year.
