CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS, Mass. — Junior kicker/punter Spencer Herrington (Clearfield) accounted for six kicking points and averaged 35.2 yards on five punts as Worcester Polytechnic Institute held off Massachusetts Institute of Technology 24-21 at Steinbrenner Stadium Saturday.
His 20-yard field goal for the first points of the New England Men’s and Women’s Athletic Conference showdown proved to be the difference in the outcome that left both Engineer teams 6-2 and tied for second place at 4-1.
Two of his punts pinned MIT inside the 10-yard line.
Spencer was rewarded with the NEWMAC Special Teams Athlete of the Week for the second week in a row and the third time this season.
He is the NEWMAC kick scoring leader with 57 points, which ranks fifth in overall scoring.
Spencer has been successful on all 30 point-after-touchdown tries and is 9-for-11 in field goal attempts, with a long of 41.
His average for 40 punts is 34.3 yards, and he also has kicked off three times for a 61-yard average.

GROVE CITY — Senior safety Austin Jacobson (Curwensville) registered a season-high four solo tackles, one for a loss of five yards, and assisted on another stop for Geneva in a 25-7 Presidents’ Athletic Conference loss to Grove City at Robert E. Thorn Field Saturday.
The Golden Tornadoes dipped to 2-4 in the PAC and 3-5 overall.
Jacobson has played in six games with 14 solo stops and nine assists with one sack and two tackles for losses of 14 yards.

WAYNESBURG — Junior linebacker Dusty Maines (Clearfield) had one solo tackle for Thiel in a 34-7 Presidents’ Athletic Conference loss to Waynesburg at Wiley Stadium Saturday.
The Tomcats are 1-7 with a 1-5 PAC record.
Maines has logged 11 solo tackles, two for losses of four yards, in his role as a reserve in every game.

CARLISLE — Senior left guard Jon Janocko (Clearfield) returned to the Juniata starting lineup after missing one game and helped the Eagles’ offensive line pave the way for 268 yards, the most since 2013, in a 38-14 Centennial Conference victory over homestanding Dickinson at Biddle Field Saturday.
The Eagles (3-5) totaled 427 yards en route to their second conference win in seven games.

WILLIAMSPORT — Senior starting center Brad Stubbs (Curwensville) and the Lycoming offensive unit managed only 297 total yards against Misericordia Saturday, but the Warriors recorded 272 of them on their five scoring drives for a 35-17 Middle Atlantic Conference win at David Person Field.
Lycoming balanced its record at 4-4 and improved to 4-3 in the MAC.

PITTSBURGH — Redshirt sophomore fullback Erik Sellers (Clearfield) made his fifth appearance as a special teamer as Pitt made it two Atlantic Coast Conference victories in a row by outdistancing Virginia 31-14 with a crowd of 30,889 on hand at Heinz Field Saturday.
The Panthers are 2-3 in the ACC and 4-5 overall.

MEN’S SWIMMING
ERIE — Junior Michael Spencer (Clearfield) was a triple winner for all-important points in Westminster’s narrow 151-143 non-conference win over host Penn State Behrend in the Junker Center Saturday.
Spencer touched first in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.98 seconds and 100 butterfly in 54.70 after swimming a 21.26 anchor leg for the victorious Titans’ 200 medley foursome that posted a 1:40.36.
He also swam a 48.74 third split for the 400 free quartet that picked up second-place points with a 3:17.70 clocking.
The Titans opened by finishing third among the five teams in their own Westminster Relays Friday, and Spencer was involved in three events, all third-place finishes.
He anchored the 3×100 backstroke team’s 2:49.22 clocking with a 54.47 split and the 200 freestyle foursome’s 1:27.90 with a 21.30 split and swam a 50.16 leadoff leg for the 400 free quartet that posted a 3:18.04.
Spencer’s personal records are 21.03 for the 50 free, 47.72 for the 100 free and 52.83 for the 100 butterfly.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Junior midfielder Tessa Munshower (Clearfield) scored her first goal of the season as Penn State Behrend punctuated a 9-0 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference regular season with an 8-1 victory over host Medaille Tuesday, Oct. 24.
Her goal in the 44th minute earned Amanda Donohue an assist and extended the Lions’ lead to 7-0. She registered two other shots, with one on goal.
Senior midfield McKenna Aleksivich (Clearfield) also had one of the Lions’ 38 shots in her fourth appearance.
Munshower has seven shots, four on goal, in 10 games.
The Lions, 14-4 overall with a 10-game winning streak, received one of the two first-round byes for the AMCC Championship Playoffs and will be seeking their seventh consecutive title this week, starting with a home semifinal game against No. 4 seed D’Youville (N.Y.).
No. 2 Mount Aloysius and No. 3 Franciscan (Ohio) meet in the other semi that will set up Saturday’s championship game, with the AMCC‘s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament also at stake.

SALISBURY, Md. — Sophomore forward Raquel Grice (Clearfield) and her Penn State Harrisburg teammates were unable to break through the No. 3-seeded Salisbury defense and saw their first trip to the Capital Area Conference Playoffs end in a 3-0 setback Saturday.
Grice also started Oct. 25 when the Lions were shut out 2-0 by visiting Mary Washington in their regular season finale but earned the No. 6 seed with their 4-5 CAC record.
The Lions are 11-8 and hoping to see their season extended via a bid to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament.
Grice has scored five goals on 12 shots, seven on goal, in 18 games, all but three as a starter.

CLARION — Senior defender/midfielder Carlee Freeberg (Clearfield) closed her four-year career for Clarion with starts on defense as the Golden Eagles played extra minutes in a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference games last week.
After losing 1-0 in overtime when a Clarion clearing attempt bounced off a Seton Hill player into goal at Greensburg Oct. 24, the Golden Eagles (6-7-5, 5-6-5 PSAC) ended the season with a double-overtime scoreless tie with East Stroudsburg at Memorial Stadium Saturday.
They played a total of nine overtime games, finishing 6-7-5 with a 5-6-5 league record that was good for 20 points and a program-best 10th place in the 17-team PSAC.
Freeberg played in 17 games and made six of her seven starts on defense.
Offensively, she got off five shots, three on goal.
Freeberg appeared in 66 games, starting 39, and was credited with one assist. Six of her 14 shots were on goal.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING
MUNCIE, Ind. — Sophomore Claire Mikesell (Clearfield) made her season debut in two events as Ohio University opened its Mid-American schedule by defeating host Ball State 185-114 in the Lewellen Aquatic Center Saturday.
Mikesell placed fifth in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.20 seconds and anchored the Bobcats’ ‘B’ 400 medley relay team that finished third in 3:59.04.
She swam in 10 meets last season with best times of 23.98 in the 50 free, 52.61 in the 100 free and 1:03.97 in the 100 breaststroke.
