DUBOIS – A local bank wants to attract more people to DuBois City to help local businesses during the upcoming holiday shopping season.
CNB Bank requested for officials to have parking meters covered from the evening of Nov. 22 through the morning of Nov. 26.
This would offer free parking over Thanksgiving, Black Friday and “Shop Local and Small Business Saturday.”
CNB Bank also offered to cover the city’s lost fees, as well as to have their own employees cover the meters.
DuBois City Council unanimously voted to approve the request. Council calculated that CNB Bank would pay $1,740 to offer the free parking.
In other business, council heard the first reading of Ordinance 1925. It involves up to $8.6 million in funding for city projects, many of which will also use grants.
Council noted the projects involve parks, baseball fields, bridge repairs, sidewalk and crosswalk improvements, etc.
Council scheduled the public hearing for 6:45 p.m. prior to its regular meeting Nov.6
Council also resumed its debate over having a round-a-bout on Beaver Drive. It was noted that community members are not in favor of the project.
Council said the total cost has been estimated between $600,000 and $650,000 before any grants from North Central and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, which would total $300,000.
“At some point, we are going to have to do something to that intersection,” said Councilman Jim Aughenbaugh.
Aughenbaugh wasn’t sure what specifically needed done, however. He requested more information about how it would work at the four-way stop sign intersection.
Earlier in the meeting, City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio refuted the installation of a stoplight. Suplizio said stoplights would be more costly and also require turning lanes.
