WORCESTER, Mass. — Junior kicker/punter Spencer Herrington (Clearfield) enjoyed his second double-digit performance with two field goals and five extra points as Worcester Polytechnic Institute rolled past Merchant Marine 41-7 in front of 786 fans at Alumni Stadium Saturday.
His field goals were from 35 yards out in the second quarter and 36 yards in the final minute of the win that gave the Engineers a 5-2 record, including 3-1 in the New England Men’s and Women’s Athletic Conference.
He was called on to punt eight times, averaging 35.1 yards with a long of 47 yards, and also kicked off for the first time in his career, averaging 61 yards for three kicks.
Herrington has racked up 50 points on 26 PATs and eight field goals in nine attempts and averaged 34.1 yards for 35 punts.

BEAVER FALLS — Senior safety Austin Jacobson (Curwensville) had one solo tackle and assisted on two other stops in Geneva’s 45-7 home field loss to undefeated and No. 17-ranked Case Western Reserve with 3,421 fans on hand around Reeves Field Saturday night.
In six games, Jacobson has 10 solo stops, one a sack for a nine-yard loss, and eight assists.
The Golden Tornadoes tumbled to 3-3 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference and 3-4 overall.

DURHAM, N.C. — Redshirt sophomore fullback Erik Sellers (Clearfield) saw special teams action for the fourth week in a row as Pitt went on the road Saturday and defeated Duke 24-17 at Brooks Field for its first Atlantic Coast Conference win.
The Wallace Wade Stadium crowd of 22,621 watched the Panthers ride running back Darrin Hall’s 254-yard, three-touchdown performance to their third victory in eight games.

GREENVILLE — Junior linebacker Dusty Maines (Clearfield) made his seventh appearance for Thiel in a 42-10 Presidents’ Athletic Conference loss to visiting and once-beaten Carnegie Mellon in front of 678 fans at Alumni Stadium Saturday night.
His season totals are 10 solo tackles, two for losses for four yards.
Thiel fell to 1-6 with a 1-4 PAC record.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
MIDDLETOWN — Sophomore forward Raquel Grice (Clearfield) scored the game-winning goal as Penn State Harrisburg celebrated Senior Day with a 5-1 win over visiting Marymount Saturday.
She found the net at the 12:58 mark, on an assist from Romina Dichio, to give the Lions a 2-0 lead en route to evening their Capital Athletic Conference record at 4-4, good for fourth place. They are 11-6 overall.
Grice is the Lions’ No. 2 point producer with 10 on five goals.
She has logged 13 shots with eight on goal in 16 games, including 13 starts.

CLARION — Senior defender/forward Carlee Freeberg (Clearfield) played on defense and offense for Clarion in a 1-0 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference loss to visiting Millersville Saturday evening.
The Golden Eagles (6-6-4) are 5-5-4 and ninth in the PSAC.
Freeberg has been credited with five shots, three on goal, in 15 games with five starts.

ERIE — Senior midfielder McKenna Aleksivich (Clearfield) made her third appearance as Penn State Behrend clinched the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference regular season championship by defeating La Roche 2-0 Saturday.
The Lions have won all eight AMCC games for a 13-4 record.

MEN’S SWIMMING
ERIE — Freshman Tate Swanson (Clearfield) beat the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying time for the 50-yard freestyle in Clarion’s 158-128 loss to host Gannon Friday.
Swanson’s 22.38-second effort was good for fifth place in the Golden Eagle’s dual meet opener, and he also lowered his 200 free personal record to 1:53.57, finishing sixth.
He swam in two relays, registering a 49.90 anchor leg for the Clarion ‘B’ medley foursome who were fourth in 3:48.84 and a 22.83 leadoff split for the 200 free quartet that took third in 1:31.72.
Freshman Hayden Steiner (Clearfield) set PRs in both of his events, 5:13.75 for fifth place in the 500 free and 22.93 for sixth place in the 50 free.
