Betty Lou Gathagan, of Philipsburg and formerly of Houtzdale, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017 at Geisinger Health Systems, Danville.
Born Sept. 3, 1930 in Beccaria, she was the daughter of the late George C. and Lois (Johnson) Shoff.
On Jan. 11, 1954, she married James A. Gathagan, who preceded her in death Jan. 10, 2000. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Dennis, in 2005.
She is survived by a son, Chris and his wife, Debbie of Pittsburgh; a step-granddaughter, Nicole (Tyler) Sherman of Denver, Colo.; a sister, Patricia J. Rambo of Williamsport; a brother-in-law, the Rev. Henry G. (Carol) Gathagan of Dayton, Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Beccaria Township High School in 1948 and attended Nyack College in Nyack, NY. She attended the First Church of God, Brisbin.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of services at 11 a.m. at Kruise-Spewock Funeral & Cremation Services Inc., Ramey. The Rev. Larry and the Rev. James Llewellyn will officiate, and burial will follow in Beulah Cemetery, Ramey.
