DUBOIS – The Penn State Extension will hold a cover crop and soil health field day.
It will take place from 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Oct. 4 at Mike Kennis’ farm. The farm is located at 585 Haag Rd., DuBois.
The program will consist of:
- Seeing the results of seeding cover crops into standing corn through the use of a cover crop interseeder at demo plots planted on Kennis’ farm.
- Learning about cover crop selection and timing when interseeding and see how interseeding can be successfully performed without affecting yield.
- Sjoerd Duiker leading sessions on health testing, soil physical properties, carbon and nitrogen cycling and soil fertility.
- Learning about financial assistance opportunities for improving soil health on your farm through programs provided by the Clearfield County Conservation District and Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).
A light lunch will be provided. Admission is free, but attendees are asked to register by contacting Clearfield County Extension office at -814-765-7878.
