DUBOIS – Kelly Williams, the watershed specialist with the Clearfield County Conservation District, presented plans to plant trees along the Montgomery Run Watershed during Monday’s DuBois City Council meeting.
This watershed feeds into the DuBois City reservoir. The trees would be planted along the stream bank in order to provide additional shade, she said.
According to Williams, Montgomery Run is high-quality, cold-water fishery with a naturally-producing brook trout population.
However, this area has also reached temperatures up to 70 degrees, which Williams said is too hot for brook trout. She said by providing shade, it would allow the trout to use most of Montgomery Run more often throughout the year.
Williams said they currently have plans to plant about 1,000 trees with the help of volunteers.
