James B. Owens, 79, of Silver Spring, Md., and formerly of Clearfield, died July 4, 2017 at Medstar Montgomery Hospital in Olney, Md.
Though he had been in declining health for many years, he still found ways to enjoy life.
He enjoyed playing cribbage with his buddies and exploring local antique shops. He was a talented wood carver and spent many hours on his projects.
He graduated from Penn State Dubois in 1992 and was a vocal supporter of the Penn State Nittany Lions. He loved going home to Clearfield to go to camp “Poverty Hill.”
Born Nov. 2, 1937, he was the only child of the late J. Bernard Owens and Josephine Houser Owens Cowder.
He is survived by his wife, the former Deanna Foor, and two sons, J. Brett Owens of Bigler and J. Brian Owens and his wife, Stephanie of Delran, NJ.
Also surviving are his two beloved grandchildren, Jason B. Owens of Burlington, NJ and Katelyn J. Smith of Clearfield. He felt truly blessed to live to see his three great-granddaughters, Nora and Eloise Owens and Maddielyn Smith.
Friends are invited from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. July 28 to the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc. in Clearfield for time of sharing and remembrance.
Masonic Services will be conducted at 6 p.m. and Elks Services will be conducted at 6:20 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. July 28 at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Joleen A. Willis officiating.
Mr. Owens’ cremains will be interred at Bradford Cemetery and services will be private.
