CLEARFIELD — After blanking DuBois 1-0 to open the Jefferson/Clearfield Counties American Legion baseball playoffs Wednesday evening, the Clearfield Chiefs needed another victory over Post 17 Saturday morning to earn a spot against Brookville in the finals. The visitors proved to be too much as they downed the host Chiefs, 9-2 at Lawrence Twp. Rec Park.
DuBois jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the second inning off of Clearfield’s starter Bryce Timko. Post 6 answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third to tie the game. Seth Bumbarger had a two-out, RBI single to score Tommy Hazel who had walked, then Nate Barr scurried home on an infield error after singling earlier in the frame.
That would be as close as Clearfield would get as DuBois scored in each of the last four innings for the victory, and advanced to meet Brookville Sunday evening in the finals.
Clearfield’s season isn’t finished as they will have a spot in the Region 7 tournament as host team, with all games to be played July 15-19 at the Rec Park.
