DUBOIS — Bryce Timko made sure the Clearfield American Legion Post 6 baseball team wouldn’t have a fourth game in as many days decided in the last at-bat by pitching a gem against DuBois at Showers Field Wednesday evening.
The left-hander stymied the hosts on four hits and faced more than three batters in only two innings of the Chiefs’ 4-1 Jefferson County League win.
Timko struck out three and walked one in the 104-pitch performance.
Pete Foradora homered in the second inning for the lone DuBois run.
That offset the marker Clearfield tallied in the top of the frame when Eli Glass singled, stole second and scored on Will Myers’ hit.
The Chiefs broke the tie in the fifth with Alec Graham dashing to the plate on a wild pitch by Colin Read moments after Jake Sorbera had been caught in a rundown between third base and home. Graham was pinch-running for Brandon Orsich, who had singled, and advanced to third on a steal and the fielder’s choice play.
Clearfield added two insurance runs in the seventh inning.
Allan Myers led off with a hit, and pinch-runner Cade Walker moved up on Glass’ sacrifice bunt before Timko singled him home. With two outs, Sorbera drove in Timko with his second hit.
The Chiefs collected nine hits off Read, who fanned two and walked none.
Clearfield (6-4) will welcome Curwensville to the Lawrence Township Recreation Park diamond Thursday at 6 p.m.
