Detour will be in place from July 5-21
TAYLOR TOWNSHIP – Beginning July 5, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will be working to replace a box culvert in Taylor Township, Centre County.
The bridge spans Bell Hollow, about two miles north of the village of Hannah on Fowler Road (Route 3025). The current box culvert dates from 1927 and carries an average of 60 vehicles daily.
Replacement work will require closing the bridge, with a detour in effect. Replacement will allow PennDOT to remove the bridge from Centre County’s structurally deficient list.
An official detour will be in place for the duration of the project, which is expected to last until July 21. Detour signing will direct drivers to use Fowler Road (Route 3025) and Eagle Valley Road (Route 3040). Drivers familiar with the area may choose alternate routes.
PennDOT will open the new box culvert and roadway ahead of schedule if work progress allows. Local residents will be able to access their homes during the replacement work.
This project is a joint effort between PennDOT and Nestlerode Contracting Co., Inc. of Lock Haven. PennDOT Centre County Maintenance will perform excavation of the old box culvert and back-filling of the new box culvert. The contractor will install the new box, pave approaches and roadway and install guide rail. All work is weather dependent,
Drivers are reminded to follow detour signs, use caution in and around work zones and always buckle up.
