CLEARFIELD – On July 5-6, the Potter Baseball team tour will stop in downtown Clearfield.
Potter Baseball will team up with the Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, St. Francis School, Clearfield Revitalization Corp. (CRC), Clearfield Baseball Association, Susquehanna River Art Center of Clearfield (SRACC) and the entire community to tell cancer to “Take A Walk.”
Two local children, Allison Colna and Brody Lanich, have been diagnosed with a life-threatening disease – pediatric cancer.
“Allison and Brody are two special kids and they are fighting cancer,” says Loretta Wagner, CRC Main Street manager. “We are excited to bring together the town of Clearfield to support the families of these amazing children.”
On July 5, events will begin at 6 p.m. at the Clearfield Riverwalk Amphitheater. The “Allison-Brody Community (ABC) Walk” will begin at 8 p.m. The ABC Walk registration fee is $10 per person and will be donated to these two local children.
Walk pre-registrations will be taken at the Shaw Public Library and day-of registrations will be held from 5 p.m. -7:30 p.m. at the Clearfield Riverwalk Amphitheater. All registration forms must be submitted with a $10 cash only payment.
The Potter Baseball team will provide a venue of light refreshments at the Clearfield Riverwalk during the ABC Walk, and all proceeds will be donated back to the families.
Shaw Public Library’s summer reading program held a benefit flower sale of mixed flower planters. They were designed by Tammy’s Garden and were to benefit the families.
The mixed flower planters will be available to be picked up at the Clearfield Riverwalk Amphitheater from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., as well as after the walk.
The Susquehanna River Art Center of Clearfield (SRACC) will host a group grid painting from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the Clearfield Riverwalk.
This group grid painting will be $15 per person with only 13 seats available. This project will donate $10 per person, and it will be divided between the two families.

There will also be live music from 6 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. by CAST’s High Voltage Show Choir; 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. by Floppin’ Jollies; and from 8:30 p.m. – 10 p.m. by The Brother Maines.
Wagner says they are encouraging people to take part in the ABC Walk, donate or to simply come out and support the cause.
On July 6, the Potter Baseball team and Clearfield Baseball Association will hold registration for the baseball skills competition and home run derby from 12:30 p.m. – 1 p.m. at Kurtz Field, located at the Clearfield Little League Complex.
The age group divisions are as follows: ages 8-9 years, ages 10-12 years, ages 13-14 years and age 15 years and up. The entry fee will be $5 per person.
The baseball skills competition and home run derby will take place from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. at Kurtz Field. The Little League concession stand will be open throughout the afternoon.
Then, at 5 p.m. at the Lawrence Township Recreation Park, the pre-game ceremony will begin for the 5:30 p.m. Potter Baseball team versus the Clearfield Jim’s Sports Center VFW team game. At 8 p.m., there will be a dinner for both teams courtesy of St. Charles Cafe.
Clearfield’s visit will be two days of a 30-day tour, as the team’s baseball games in each town are complemented by community service. The tour will take the team all over Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia and Maryland.
Potter baseball head coach Jeff Potter says, “This is a great community, and we look forward to returning to Clearfield to take on this project.”
Wagner adds, “Potter Baseball reiterates everything the CRC stands for, which is bringing out the best of a community. In a setting like downtown, it is fun for the team and a value to our small town.”
Lisa Coval of the Shaw Public Library pointed out that the theme for the summer reading program is, “Building a Better World” with a focus on recycling and community involvement.
“We are very pleased that the Potter Baseball tour can be a part of this program by reading to the children,” she says.
Wagner also wanted to thank the Clearfield County Recreation and Tourism Authority, also known as Visit Clearfield County, and the Hampton Inn for helping to provide accommodations for the Potter team during its stay in Clearfield.
