HYDE — Ty Bender drove in three runs with a pair of doubles while winning pitcher Brandon Orsich and Thayne Morgan had two RBIs apiece to lead the Clearfield American Legion Post 6 baseball team to a 12-7 victory over DuBois at the Bison Sports Complex Tuesday evening.
The Chiefs’ second win in three meetings with DuBois left both clubs 3-2 and tied for second place behind Brookville in the Jefferson County League.
The Chiefs packed nine of their 11 hits into the first and third innings, when they batted around to rack up nine runs.
A dozen stepped into the box in the first frame.
After Morgan received the first of five walks issued by Noah Schneider, Bender doubled off the fence in straightaway center field for the first of six runs. Will Myers and Jake Sorbera drew free passes and Morgan was hit by a pitch in bases-loaded situations for RBIs, and Orsich added a run-scoring line single to center.
The visitors got to Orsich for three runs in the top of the third on Nick LaBrasca’s two-run double and Daron Walker’s sacrifice fly, but the Chiefs immediately countered with a five-run salvo.
Bender’s double to right center for two RBIs was the key hit and chased Schneider. Earlier, Orsich‘s infield hit and Morgan‘s forceout chase home runs. After Matt Agosti relieved, Bender scored on a passed ball.
Agosti allowed only one run, unearned, in his 3-1/3 innings while fanning four and walking five.
Orsich gave up 11 hits but walked only one and struck out six in his second complete-game win. Only three of DuBois’ runs were earned.
LaBrasca had three hits and three RBIs for DuBois. Colin Read chipped in with a pair of singles.
Clearfield makes the short trip to Curwensville Thursday to take on the Bucks at Sherman Fields.
