TYRONE — For the second year in a row, Clearfield Area High School junior shortstop Brooke Cline was selected by the head coaches as one of three infielders on the Mountain League All-Star First Team that was announced at the annual spring sports banquet in Tyrone Area High School Sunday afternoon.
Cline, who was named to the second team as a freshman, was one of the top hitters in the league at .433 as well as anchoring the Bison inner defense.
She led the Bison (4-16) in hits with 29 in 67 official at-bats and socked nearly a third of their extra base hits with 10 doubles, two of the team’s three triples and one of the four home runs.
Cline, who drove in nine runs and stole five bases in six attempts, struck out only three times in 73 trips to the plate.
Bellefonte pitcher Tara Baney and Central infielder Olivia Smith and outfielder Maddie Metzler are the other repeaters on the 2017 first team. Baney, a second-team pick last in 2015, doubled as the first-team offensive pitcher last year.
Moving up from the second team a year ago are offensive pitcher Kamryn Harris of Philipsburg-Osceola, catcher Leah Reed of Huntingdon and infielder Rianna Trexler of Bellefonte.
Harris also was tabbed as the lone pitcher for the second team that includes two players who were on the first team a year ago, first baseman Maggie Peck of Philipsburg-Osceola and infielder Jenna Ritchey of Central.
Peck also was selected All-ML first-team pitcher and second-team offensive pitcher two years ago.
Mountain League final standings — Philipsburg-Osceola 12-2, Central 12-2, Bellefonte 11-3, Bald Eagle Area 8-6, Huntingdon 7-7, Penns Valley 4-10, Clearfield 1-13, Tyrone 1-13.
