John Alan “Skip” Pifer, 84, of DuBois died Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Penn Highlands DuBois.
Born May 31, 1932, he was the son of the late John George Pifer and Lillian (Kremkau) Pifer.
He was a graduate of the Sandy High School in the class of 1950.
On July 8, 1950, he married Mary Jo Weaver. He then married Cheryl Ann Meenan on Nov. 11, 1971.
He operated G.W. Pifer Sons Lumber Co., from 1958 through 1968 and Pifer’s General Contracting from 1968 until his retirement.
He attended Tri-County Church in DuBois. He enjoyed bowling, playing pool, fishing and hiking in the woods. He had two beloved pets, P-nut, his dog, and Cece, his cat. He loved children and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by five children, Barbara Quinn and her husband, Dan, Sue Tench and her husband, Ron and Wendy Pifer-Vasquez, all of DuBois, Bill Pifer and his wife, Barb of Allison Park and John Pifer and his wife, Joanne of Matthews, NC.
He is also survived by a brother, Charles Pifer and his wife, Judy of Carmel, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Tony Vuocolo and his wife, Lauren, Kristine Vuocolo, Tricia Muth and her husband, Chris, Rob Coccimiglio and his fiancée, Daniele Schatz, Jenelle Pifer, Kelly Pifer, Marissa Pifer and Mario Vasquez; and two great grandchildren, Abby Vuocolo and Miles Muth.
He was preceded in death by his brother, William Pifer and a granddaughter, Cara Lynn Coccimiglio.
There will be no public visitation. A memorial service date will be determined at the convenience of the family at a time in June.
