James “Jim” Robert Smith, 80, of DuBois died Sunday, May 21, 2017 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Born in Falls Creek on Sept. 20, 1936, he was the son of the late Fredrick and Mildred (Jones) Smith.
On Sept. 21, 1957, he married Mary Jane Ball. She survives.
He was a graduate of the DuBois Area High School in the class of 1954. He retired from Penn Traffic as a truck driver for 31 years and 13 years at the B & O Railroad.
He was a member at Treasure Lake Church for many years. He drove late model dirt cars. He coached a little league team, the Tasty Freeze, for many years.
He enjoyed going to NASCAR racing and watching the Pirates, Steelers and the Penguins games. His greatest joy in life was camping and being with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by four sons, James R. Smith Jr. and his wife, Roni of Treasure Lake; Brian Smith of and Scott Smith and his companion, Shari, all of DuBois; and Todd Smith and his wife, Jaci of Falls Creek.
He is survived by 12 grandchildren, Christi Borrero and her husband, Jeremy of Erie; Justin Smith of Hawaii; Eric Smith of Treasure Lake; Tiffany Harriger and her husband, Jeff, Breann Smith, Jesse Smith, Scott Smith and his wife, Amber and Tim and Kim Smith, all of DuBois; David Smith and his wife, Tara of Brockway; and Joshua and Joel Smith of Falls Creek.
He is survived by 12 great-grandchildren, Brayden, McKenzie, Dominick, Aiden, Jaiden, Kaylee, Kendal, Taylor, Liam, Everlee, Chloe and Kamdyn.
He is also survived by a brother, Keith Smith of DuBois and two sisters, Janet Guthridge and her husband, Don of DuBois and Molly Wraye of Falls Creek.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Smith and Sandy Smith and one sister, Karen Smith.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Treasure Lake Church with Pastor Dick Whitaker officiating.
