PENFIELD – Staff members at the Parker Dam State Park have announced the program schedule for May 26-27.
Friday, May 26
Conservation Legacy:
3 p.m. – CCC Museum
You can come inside the museum for the first time in 2017 and learn about the legacy left by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Afterward, you can look around at the displays and discover just what it was that they accomplished. Without their work, people would not be able to enjoy the state park today.
Matchless Fire:
8 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater
You can learn how folks started fires before matches or lighters. Fire by friction, flint and steel, and fire by compression will all be explored.
Saturday, May 27
Early Bird Walk:
10 a.m. – Beach House
While it may not be early enough to get the worm, it is still early enough in the year to see a variety of birds that can be seen this part of the world. You can learn more about the commonly seen birds.
Hike to the Vista:
1 p.m. – CCC Museum
Participants will hike to the highest point in the park to overlook the lake and the surrounding forest. You should bring a camera if you have one, and please wear the appropriate shoes for a hike in the woods.
Parachute Games:
3 p.m. – Beach House Area
You can come and play and have some fun with parachute games that have an environmental twist. All ages are welcome.
Spring Wildflowers:
8:30 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater
You can learn some interesting folklore to go with identifying some of the park’s spring wildflowers. There are some interesting and beautiful examples to be found.
