DUBOIS – The possibility of a new cell phone tower in Treasure Lake attracted Sandy Township citizens to a public hearing on Monday night.
Both the Sandy Township Supervisors and citizens heard information regarding the tower and also got answers to questions.
The supervisors tabled their vote on the cell phone tower until they had adequate time to research township ordinances and such.
The tower, if approved, would be constructed in the Trade Winds Parklet in Treasure Lake. It would be owned and operated by Horvath Communications Inc.
The use of the tower would be leased out to as many as five, different cell phone carriers, and currently Verizon has agreed to sign on.
The tower site would be leased from the Treasure Lake Property Owners Association.
It would be a 100-foot by 100-foot square plot of land. However, the tower would be contained within a 70-foot by 70-foot square fence
The fence would be eight feet tall with three strands of barbed wire. The tower would be 300 to 350 feet tall.
The citizens who were in attendance were in favor of the new cell phone tower if it resulted in better reception.
