DUBOIS – On Monday night, DuBois City Council resumed its discussions regarding the types of vehicles that should be permitted to travel on Main Street.
The council has continued to receive feedback from the community on whether or not to forbid trucks on Main Street upon completion of work.
Council members said they’ve heard support from residents for limiting local traffic to smaller trucks on the repaired roadways within the city.
Council said, for example, it perhaps could permit furniture trucks but not 18-wheelers.
City Manager John Suplizio said he’s heard feedback from truck drivers who are from outside the city, and they opposed such a measure.
In other business, council held the first reading of Council Bill No. 1921. It repeals portions of DuBois City’s laws that are prohibiting the discharge of firearms or similar devices within city limits.
City Solicitor Toni Cherry said she is pushing for this for two reasons. First, she pointed out that the prohibition was barely enforced to begin with.
Secondly, she said that the city prohibition would conflict with proposed Commonwealth of Pennsylvania laws.
According to Cherry, lawmakers are aiming to make gun laws more uniform across the commonwealth. Pennsylvania laws and regulations would still apply if the council bill passed.
