Mary Jane “Checkbook” Williams, 84, of West Decatur died Saturday, May 6, 2017 at her home.
She was born April 11, 1933 in Clearfield, the daughter of the late Meryll and Edith (Knepp) Lonjin.
Mrs. Williams was a former member of the Woodland Methodist Church. She was also a member of the CB Club.
She was a homemaker most of her life who took care of her six children. She enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with her family.
She was a huge sports fan and kept up with her grandchildren and the statistics of the teams in the community, with wrestling, baseball and softball being some of her favorites.
On Feb. 19, 1949, she wed the late Don Williams, the love of her life.
She is survived by her four children, George D. “Peach” Williams Jr. and his wife, Sandy of Morrisdale, James D. “Pear” Williams and his wife, Pamela of Mineral Springs, Diana G. Schwab and her husband, Wayne of Mill Hall and Doyle M. “Dude” Williams of West Decatur.
Also surviving are a daughter-in-law, Denise Williams of Philipsburg; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a son, Richard D. “Rin” Williams; a daughter, Darlene “Moots” Candelaria; her four siblings, Meryl “Dick” Lonjin, Margaret Shugarts, John Lonjin and Hazel Maines. She was the last of her generation.
Mrs. Williams was a big supporter of the “Make America Great Again” campaign.
Friends will be received from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. Friday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc.
A service will be held at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Sam Maines officiating. Burial will be in Bradford Cemetery.
